OUR (MIS) ADVENTURE

Because adventures are never without their mishaps...

Our stories, neither as individuals, nor as a couple, are simple. We, ourselves, are not simple, and for the most part, while we may appreciate the simple things in life, we usually do not choose the route that makes our life simple. After all, where would the excitement be if we weren’t both indecisive, overly ambitious, procrastinating, adventurous, nature-loving, stubborn, complicated and traumatized individuals? (P.S. we don't fully understand why y'all love us so much).

How We Met:

You know, people often joke about how couples meet through social media/dating apps/websites/etc., but to tell you the truth, that’s kind of how our relationship got started. Skipping a few pages in the story to February 2018, Stephen was involved with a nonprofit and organizing a fundraiser for a community greenhouse he had been working on for a while, and with Cheree being the downtown loving, bar hopping, low-country gardening girl she was, she and her friends decided to attend the fundraiser, and that was when she saw Stephen for the first time.

So, Cheree decided to add Stephen on Instagram, and as one might expect of Stephen, when he saw someone with the name “Tree” had added him, he was curious. So what does any normal, sane person do? He creepily looked through her photos…

A few days later, or rather, a day or two later, they were on their first date, and, of course, after Stephen shows up “fashionably” late and gives an awkward one-armed hug, they start to hit it off. And then they really hit it off. And then, when they were leaving, and Stephen see’s her Jurassic Park era 2-door Jeep with the top off, covered in outdoorsy/adventurous/Harry Potter bumper stickers, along with an almost identical single-speed yellow bicycle mounted on the back (his was blue), he was pretty much in love.

That date continued with Stephen kicking Cheree’s butt in darts, after she had been adamant that he had no chance, followed by a late bike ride around downtown looking for vegan ice cream.

Date two: Driving in the Jeep, with the doors off, to brunch at the Wyld, a super awesome outdoor restaurant on the marsh.

Date three: A road trip in the Jeep, with the bikes, of course, to some ruins outside Beaufort, SC so Stephen can do a biomimicry homework assignment, and spend more time with Cheree. This was when Cheree realized she was falling in love with a total nerd.

And, at this point, it’s still only been about 72 hours since that first encounter outside Green Truck...

As the story continues, it grows to include everything from beginning our first camper renovation project together, exchanging our first I love you’s at the cabin together, both finding jobs as professional organic gardeners (not together), moving in together, smuggling pets into homes together, giving up on our first camper renovation project together, traveling together, traveling together with moms, traveling together with a mom knowing her son is about to propose (...), traveling together with moms together (...****!!!...), traveling together to buy an airstream…. to travel together, traveling together to work together… to afford traveling together, not to mention so many other miscellaneous road trips, camping trips, and random (mis)adventures together over the last two years… especially going to Green Truck on Tuesdays… together.

In case you haven’t caught on…. We like being together, so we gon’a stay together.

But as you all know, we are not the most graceful pair. We rarely plan ahead, we make snap decisions, and we almost never admit when we’re wrong. We fight, and we drive each other crazy, but we love each other more than words can ever express - and we make one kick a** team together.

That said, we also acknowledge we probably drive you a little crazy, too. Unfortunately, for you, just as we are each other’s soulmates, you are not just our friends, but our family, and we would not be where we are today without you.

So, to you we say…

And into the mountains we go,

To lose our minds and find our souls,

As we say our ‘I do’s’

And thank each and every one of you for joining us

As we begin our next chapter together.

Love Always,
Cheree & Stephen
